The truth is, plenty of notable people agree that Fairy Tales are good for children, including Albert Einstein!

Fairy Tales foster imagination.
Yes, this is obvious, but it really has far reaching effects. Children use their imagination to learn about the world around them. They make connections using the knowledge that they have and fill in the gray areas with their own ideas of what "might be." Their creative thoughts not only help build their ideas about their world but also about themselves. They use comparisons to stories to see what things they have in common as well as in contrast to the characters. These skills help them build their own character strengths and may even begin to spark ideas in the type of education, career and life that they want to build for themselves.

Fairy Tales reinforce our efforts to teach right from wrong.
Underneath every fairy tale story is a moral lesson. Just as it is with the lore spun by Aesop, the message may not be direct, but it's still there. Justice prevails. Good triumphs over evil. Love can conquer all.

Fairy Tales teach critical thinking skills.
It doesn't take long for children to draw connections and even make predictions between decision and outcome. They learn that while the circumstances of the story may be beyond their control, it's the character's choices that will ultimately have the greatest influence the story's ending. 

Fairy Tales help children understand their emotions.
Love and loss. Loneliness. A longing to be heard and understood. These are not just themes in fairy tales but in real life as well! My 7 year old was certain that she was the only child on the planet not allowed to go to the park alone. I'm sure that it was easy for her to empathize with  the plight of Jasmine who longed to see the world outside of her palace walls. Understanding that everyone has emotions is an important part of learning to deal with them.
Bravery in the face of danger. Confidence and determination even when the odds are not in your favor. Fairy tales teach children that  they too are big enough, strong enough, smart enough, and kind enough to be the hero of their own story.

Fairy Tales are Fun.
What's not to love about imagining yourself dancing at the Royal Ball like Cinderella or following the will o' the wisps like Merida? When will you ever be taught how to swing through the jungle on vines by Tarzan or have dinner prepared for you by a talking clock and a singing candle stick, if not in the fairy tales that are read to you in your childhood?  

Yesterday the Queen of Hearts, the Sea Witch, Evil Queen, and some crazy lady with a fur coat celebrated Halloween with the good folks of Davis County at Parkstone in Station Park. The four of us delightful delightful ladies mingled with guests as they enjoyed a fantastic breakfast. After two wickedly fun hours, we are quite certain by the number of hand-be dazzled foam cutouts that were gifted to us, that the kiddos had as much fun as we did!

A few hours later, we took our ravishing foursome south for a visit to Classic Fun Skating in Sandy. In true Villian style, we took over the skating rink and tried to convince more good people to join us in our evil pursuits. Much to our dismay, however, here too we found too many good hearts, we were almost convinced to change our ways!

I had the pleasure of taking on the role of the fur-loving villain with an affinity for puppies. I loved playing with all the kids I met yesterday, but one little girl named Gabby proved to be a bit of a thief! While I thought I had convinced her to hand over her new puppies, she instead stole Miss Devillie’s heart.

After sending Gabby off to fetch the puppies, she returned to report that her aunt said the puppies were too small, but offered an Almond Joy as an alternative. Unsatisfied, I curled Gabby’s fingers back around the tempting treat with another offer. I would forgo indulging in that little bit of coco nutty heaven. . . .for the two puppies. All she had to do was take the treat back to her aunt and explain the new terms of the deal. Gabbi just laughed and began a new conversation.


“I live with my aunt because my mommy is in heaven and my daddy is in jail.”


So many things went through my mind, and my heart ached for her.  I wondered how I could show this little girl what I really felt without dropping the character she’d been having so much fun with. Honestly I can’t remember what I said to her, but villain or princess, a hug is a hug and can mean more than than words sometimes.

Gabby is a little ray of sunshine, and obviously has many people who love her. She told me she is going to be a sister soon because her aunt is going to have a baby. How perfect to have such amazing people in the world like Gabby and her aunt.

And how lucky that I get to have these moments where people who would have been just strangers are now sweet memories.

This year, we added not one, but two very special elements to The Dream Celebration Stage Show.
Meet Carlie and Lilly!  
These little princesses played the roles of Lizzie and Violet, two sisters who fall asleep reading a favorite story, only to have the story brought to life by their Fairy Godmother!!  The did an amazing job and were there through all the long hours of rehearsal.  They even practiced on their own whenever they were together!  They invested their whole hearts into the show, just like the princesses that twirled around with them.  They loved every minute of it and we couldn't be more proud of them. 
"Now make a wish, and do as dreamers do, and all my wishes. . .  will come true."

What makes us so Magical?   You guessed it, it's our talented, kind, and beautiful cast! They are more than just a cast to us.  At Magical Celebrations, we are a family.  We couldn't be happier to have such an amazing group of people to work with!  These ladies and gentlemen put their whole heart into everything they do.  They spend hours studying lines, their characters, and how they should interact- in addition to making sure they look the part.  Once they are costumed and ready to go, they leave themselves at home and become a dream-come-true for your event!
